My 20 month old whinges all the time and is very demanding. Even if I say ‘NO’ he keeps at it until I give in. What can I do?

A Whinging is very common at this age and many toddlers have learned how to get what they want from their parents. They know which buttons to press and that if they keep up this annoying whinging the parent will soon give in. The first thing to do is to try to prevent the whinging by stopping
and thinking about what the issue is and is it worth a fight. This way you
will avoid the battles that cannot be won. If you decide to say ‘NO’, mean what you say and stick to it. To help you to ignore the whinging move your attention away, go into the garden for a breath of fresh air but stay calm
and the whinging will soon stop.
