I suffered Post Natal Depression with my little girl but felt great following the birth of my son. However, for the last 2-3 months I have felt increasingly low and some days feel the best thing for everyone would be for me to disappear. Is it still possible for me to have Post Natal Depression again?

A I am sorry to hear that you are feeling so low and you are right in thinking that you may have Post Natal Depression. It is possible that you have late onset Post Natal Depression which can develop weeks or months after giving birth. You have also had Post Natal Depression with your older child which is one of the possible risk factors. My advice would be to make an appointment with your Doctor as soon as possible to discuss your feelings with him/her and to rule out possible physical cause such as under active thyroid and anemia which sometimes occur after giving birth and could be a cause for your feelings. Health visitors usually offer a Post Natal Depression Check at six weeks and three months and I am wondering if you have had that? It is a self report questionnaire which is simple to complete and is scored by the Health Visitor and will indicate whether or not you are suffering from Post Natal Depression. It might be a good idea to contact your Health Visitor and will indicate whether or not you are suffering from Post Natal Depression. It might be a good idea to contact your Health Visitor and complete a questionnaire before your appointment with your Doctor. Your Health Visitor will also be able to offer you support. It is important to discuss your feelings with your partner/husband and trusted members of your family and friends so that you get the help and support you need until you are feeling better.
