Our first child is now twelve months old and we are expecting our second baby in five months time. When is the best time to switch our daughter from her cot to a bed?

A It is unlikely that your daughter will be ready move to a bed when the new baby arrives because she will still be very young. It would also be difficult for her to cope with a change of cot at the same time as the arrival of a new baby. The best time to move from a cot to a bed is when she is too big for the cot or it becomes unsafe because she can climb out of it. One idea might be to buy a cot bed now and move her before the baby arrives. She will then be used to her new cot/bed, be safe and it can later be converted to a bed at the right time for her.
