My daughter was 2 last month and I am still a bit concerned that she still has a slight soft spot on her head (fontanelle). She is very bright and I have no other concerns but I thought that they usually close between the age of 12-18months. I did see a doctor about 4 months ago and was told that is should close by the age of 2!
Is this something to worry about?

A Thank you for contacting healthvisitors.com regarding your daughter.
Yes you are right; the anterior fontanelle does ‘usually’ close by 18 months of age, but there can be a variation in the normal range. The main area of concern would be if your daughter was not reaching her age appropriate developmental milestones. You could pop into your local clinic and ask your health visitor to assess your daughter’s development, for your peace of mind.

If you are still concerned you could ask your GP to refer your daughter to a paediatrician for a second opinion.
