My daughter is teething so she goes to bed with a spoonful of Calpol. She cries frequently during the night, about every hour, so I am also putting Calgel on her gums in case it’s her teeth.
A You say that you are giving Calpol and Calgel for teething but you do not say exactly how often you do this. Calpol is an analgesic for pain and the recommended dose for your baby is half a teaspoon three times in 24 hours. Calgel contains lignocaine Hydrocloride which is a local anesthetic and other ingredients. It is safe for babies and can be applied up to six times daily. My worry is that if you are giving both together and regularly there is a danger of giving too much so my advice would be to give one or the other but not both. I also feel that an analgesic is better for pain because Calgel might not be on the right spot and will then be ineffective.
