My son is 9 months old and he is often constipated. Is there something in his diet I can change to help rather than giving him medication?.
A
It is not recommended that babies are given a high fibre diet due
to the immaturity of their intestines. Rather than change anything in your baby's
diet, there are several other things which may help. It's possible that dehydration
is causing your baby's constipation, so try giving him extra drinks of cooled
boiled water. You could also try gently massaging his stomach in clockwise circular
motions. So that you don't irritate his skin, you may wish to put some baby oil
on your warmed hands first. Do not continue the massage if your baby seems uncomfortable
or in pain. You could also try moving your baby's legs in a cycling motion. Always
consult your Health Visitor or GP if the symptoms persist.
