When you do decide to cut your babies finger and toe nails,
only use blunt ended baby scissors or clippers. The best time to cut their nails
is when your baby is sleeping, as they do not wriggle around so much.
Be really careful not to cut the skin around your baby’s
fingers or to cut too far down as this will make your babies fingers sore.
Do not be tempted to bite your baby’s nails off with your
teeth as this is unhygienic. Sometimes a nail file is enough to gently file
the nail down a little, but again be careful of the skin around the fingers
as nail files can rub and burn the skin.
With ear care for babies, the inside of the ear as with adults
cleans itself. You may want to wash the outer ear or the entrance of the ear,
but only gently with a wet wipe to remove any dirt or dry skin. Never use a
cotton bud to enter your baby’s ear canal as this could damage the eardrum.
If you see wax building up in the entrance to the ear canal, if you see any
redness, if you see your baby tugging their ear, or they appear to be in pain
- see your GP as they may have an ear infection.
