How many cots should we buy for our twins?.

A Initially many parents find that they don't need more than one cot. In fact many don't even use cots at all at and may choose a Moses basket.

Choosing whether to buy one cot or two will depend initially on your budget and also available space in your home.

If you do decide to have them sleeping together do remember to follow the guidelines to prevent cot death so:

  • Have them both sleeping on their backs with their feet at the end of the cot(Feet to foot of cot position)
  • They could become much hotter by sleeping together so bear this in mind.
  • It is best to have your twins in your room for the first six months - so you may want to delay buying a cot or two at all until this time.

Remember your cot should comply with the British Standards Institution (BSI) standards ref: number BS EN 716:1996. This means your cot is safe

If you are looking for a cot remember:

  • Is it big enough for your baby to grow into or will you want to buy different cots
  • Adjustable bases are helpful so that the cot can be lifted preventing you from back strain or injury and you can lift your baby out with ease.
  • Some cots have removable sides so you can put your cot next to your bed
  • Some cots come with a built in teething rail, but remember the need for careful hygiene.

As your twins get older they may start waking each other up during the night. So this may be the time to think about getting another cot.
