Should I dress my twins alike?.

A This really depends on you the parent. Initially when your babies are first born it is easier to pull out two outfits the same rather than trying to select 2 separate outfits when you are already busy.

However as you twins get older and start being involved in the whole dressing routine, do let them chose their own outfits. You can let them select colours and styles they like when buying clothes and then allow them to selecting something to wear on a daily basis.

Even though your babies look the same it is always best to promote their own individuality and personalities. This helps not only to foster self esteem, but also to help them prepare for their future when they will have to be separated from one another such as in school or when building their own relationships.

It also helps when your twins go to nursery and primary school to dress as individuals (if they do not have a uniform policy) especially if they are identical as it will enable teachers to tell them apart from one another.

Many psychologists recommend against dressing twins alike for a number of reasons. Nancy Segal a psychologist who has studied twins and is in fact a twin herself, states that often with identical twins if they are dressed alike from birth, they later rely on this to get attention rather than fostering their own personalities and communication skills.
