How do I cope with twins?.

A Having one baby can be a joy and stressful at the same time, so having two or more babies can be a joy and delight and also may be incredibly stressful. The most important thing is to plan ahead for and be willing to accept help and make sure you have a good support network around you.

Get people to help with the practical things such as shopping, washing, ironing and making meals.

Tiredness will be an issue it is important to get your rest and look after yourself. A rested well fed Mum can cope better than one who is tired and listless.

Use the support of friends, family, playgroups and baby sitters as some one to talk to too. Some parents find support from agencies that represent other parents of twins or joining a multiples support group is invaluable.

Other sources of free help include the charity Home-Start. These are trained volunteers who can help families for a couple of hours a week. Home start can be contacted on 0800 068 6368. You can also visit their site at www.home-start.org.uk/

Your health visitor will also be able to advise you of lists of playgroups and nurseries and how to get registered child minders to help you.
