How do I wean twins?.
A
The most important thing is
to remember that each twin is an individual so one may be ready for weaning earlier
than the other. Do keep this important fact in mind.
The trick is to try bland food stuff first such as baby rice
or porridge mixed with breast or formula milk, and sticks to this one taste
for at least a week. This helps particularly to get your baby used to taking
food from a spoon and if there is a risk of food allergies in your family you
will know what new food you introduced at what time.
- Feed your baby breast
or formula first so they do not get too frustrated then either break off in
the middle or offer the solids at the end of the feed.
- Pick a soft spoon that
your baby can suck food from and only give one or 2 teaspoons at one feed
and then gradually increase this.
- Let your baby guide
you and be patient as your baby has to use a new range of oral muscles to
take food from a spoon so this may take a while, lots of face pulling and
lots of mess.
- Never force your baby
and never leave them unattended when introducing solid foods.
- Once you have tried one
taste for at least a week try with a new food and give your baby the new taste
for a week and so on, gradually increasing.
