My baby has a cold should I still have her immunised?.

A There really is no need to delay your Childs immunization schedule if your baby has a cold. Delaying your baby’s injections will just mean that she is more at risk of exposure to the harmful diseases she will be vaccinated against.

Please be reassured that having your baby immunized when they have a cold will not overload their immune system. Your baby is already being exposed to large amounts of bacteria and viruses everyday and their immune systems work just fine.

However, If your baby has a cold with a fever, (that is any temperature over 37.5°c/ 99°F), then it is advisable to postpone their injections until your Childs temperature has returned to normal. This is because the effect of the vaccine may increase the fever or it may mask symptoms associated with the vaccine.

If you are unsure about your Childs health or immunizations in general you health visitor or GP will be able to give you more support and advice so do use them.
