What are the symptoms of Post natal depression (PND)?.

A Some of the symptoms of PND are listed below. Some Mums may experience one or many of these symptoms:

  • Depression
  • Constantly crying
  • Tiredness or exhaustion
  • Feeling physically unwell
  • Lack of energy and interest in anything
  • A lack of motivation to undertake even basic tasks such as washing and dressing yourself.
  • Feeling angry, bad tempered and irritable
  • Despite extreme tiredness you are unable to sleep or keep waking up throughout the night for no reason
  • A loss or increase in appetite
  • No interest in sex or physical intimacy
  • An inability to cope
  • Feeling guilty and negative - unable to think positively about the future
  • Anxiety and worry about your Childs health and development
  • Anxiety about anything that may be unfounded
  • Panic attacks
  • Feeling detached or not close to your baby
  • Fear of being left alone
  • Unable to care for your baby
  • Clinging to family members or your partner

It is important for you your baby and your family to seek help if you feel you may be suffering from post natal depression. It is a very treatable condition. Seek help from your doctor or health visitor or see our FAQ for organizations to get help and advice from.
