How do I know my Childs hearing is ok?.

A Hearing is a crucial part of speech and language development. In Your baby should have had their hearing screening test a few weeks after birth? If your child missed this screening and you would like your baby tested or are concerned about your Childs hearing, speak to your GP or health visitor.

As a parent you are the expert and you will be able to recognize if there are any
Symptoms of a hearing loss some of the signs of hearing loss for babies and toddlers could be:

  • Your baby does not respond to sudden loud noises they may not be startled or turn their head or eyes in the direction of the noise.
  • Your baby appears to not recognize your voice.
  • Your baby does not laugh out loud.
  • Your notice that your baby does not usually turn his or her eyes or head toward a sound.
  • Your child does not babble or make vocal noises and as they get older does not imitate sounds or produce a few words.
  • Your toddlers speech may be limited, poor, or there may be no speech at all.
  • They do not follow simple commands are frequently inattentive and appear to have difficulty learning.
  • As they get older they may ask for the volume on the TV or radio/stereo to be increased.
  • They may not respond to normal pitch speech or answer inappropriately as they have not heard what you have said correctly
