How do I encourage learning and play with my 2-3 year old?.

A Speech and memory is one of the major developmental milestones as is walking, running and jumping. As your Childs understanding and memory develops they are beginning to understand more detailed concepts. It may seem at some times their favourite word is “why?”

At this age range they also like to imitate adults which can be very amusing.

Your child is also becoming more independent at this stage in their development. Indeed, they like to do things for themselves like dressing washing

  • At this age range your child will enjoy being active so encourage activity time when they can run jump and let them kick and throw balls.
  • As there motor skills and hand eye co-ordination continue to develop they will enjoy more complex toys that they can create things with like plasticine, play dough, puzzles and building bricks.
  • Encourage imitation by using toys that mimic everyday items that adults use. Some children like play ironing boards and irons play cookers and telephones where they can be like Mum and Dad.
  • Help their understanding of detailed concepts by using books that explain how things happen, use educational TV or DVDS.
  • Encourage independence by letting your child wash and dress themselves and chose what they want to wear. Teach them how to tie their shoelaces or fasten their shoes.
