How do I Encouraging learning and play with my 1-3month year old?.

A A babies learning within this age range focuses very much around the senses and is know as sensory learning. The senses are: sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. Thus to encourage learning and play in this age range you can try the following

  • Sight: anything new will stimulate your child. You can choose brightly coloured toys and toys with human faces for your child to touch and follow.
You can also make different facial expressions for your baby to imitate.
  • Hearing: just talking to your baby as well as reading or singing will help encourage your Childs learning. Your baby will hear noises all around them from their environment. You can help speech development in your child by responding to your baby's coos and gurgling with your own words.
  • Touch: babies also learn through touch, so different textures and shapes are good to introduce. Soft toys are lovely to cuddle into and baby gyms are great to encourage your child to reach for the shapes. Another tool for learning are soft baby books with the different textured pages, you can read the story whilst your child feels the different textures.
  • Smell: Don’t forget your child will be learning about their environment through the smells surrounding them, good and bad.
