I am thinking of using the controlled crying method to get my baby to sleep what do I do?.

A The controlled crying technique is quite intense and takes a lot of commitment and perseverance, but can be very successful in getting your baby to sleep though, as it teaches your baby to go to sleep on their own. Some parent’s find it upsetting and it should be done in partnership, that is, both parents agree and do the same thing.
Basically this method involves setting up a bedtime routine that is consistent or the same every night. This is important to help your baby wind down.
An example of a wind down routine may be bath, night clothes, placed in cot awake, a story in the cot,

The controlled crying technique can then commence:

  • leave your baby in their cot if they start to cry when you leave the room do the following
  • Wait 5 minutes before going back to the room. When you go back into the room after 5 minutes, don't touch, pick up, or cuddle your baby. Simply say, “Mummy/Daddy is here, go to sleep” and leave the room, even if they are still crying.
  • Now leave your baby another 10 minutes and repeat the procedure as in the last point
  • Now leave your baby for 15 minutes, then every 15 minutes until they start to settle if they are settled don’t go in again as you may disturb them
  • If your baby wakes again during the night continue the procedure from the beginning.

The trick is to not give up and be consistent every night. The first three nights will be grueling, but after this you will see a considerable improvement.
