Why does my baby need to nap through the day?.

A Sleep is a major requirement for good health, and so that children get all the rest and recuperation they need, daytime sleep is also needed. Sleep is essential for brain development and emotional and physical health. During the first few months of life the growth and development of your child is at its highest, so it goes without saying your Childs sleep needs will be at their highest too and this includes daytime napping.

The amount of sleep a child needs really does depend on the individual child, some children need lots of sleep whilst others very little.

However, there are age related guidelines that will help you get a picture of the sleep requirements needed at the different age ranges. These can be found in our FAQ sleep section. However please remember that these are just guidelines your Childs own need for sleep and naps should guide your routine.

Your babies nap times are also good for you too. Take the time out to rest yourself, eat a nutritious snack, catch up on you chores or simply have some you time!

Remember as you may already have set up good nighttime sleep routines you also need to set up routine and consistency with your daytime napping schedules. Your baby will give you the cues when they are ready for a nap then put your baby to bed while sleepy but not yet asleep. This teaches babies how to fall asleep themselves, a skill you will relish when they get older.
