Can I have some Tips for successful potty training?.

A

  • Choose a time to potty train when nothing else significant is happening in your toddler's life e.g. the arrival of a new baby or starting nursery.
  • Make sure you set a plan of action. Try to make sure using the potty is an enjoyable experience, think about how you can make the experience fun.
  • Once you have decided to start the potty training process, be consistent, do not change from your plan or your child will become confused. If your child is going to relatives or to nursery whilst you are potty training, communicate your plan to them too so your child has consistency away from home too.
  • Give your child tons of praise for their potty training successes and have lots of patience with their accidents! Think about how you are going to reward your child. Sticker charts are good, but think about how your child is best motivated. Bear in mind potty training really takes time and patience before you will see results.
  • Being dry at night will take longer, so do not put pressure on your child.
  • Make sure your child is well supported emotionally during potty training. Any change and new experiences can be stressful for children, so always maintain a positive attitude towards your child and offer loads of encouragement and support.
  • Do give a thought to clothing when potty training make it easier for your little one to get their pants up and down chose elasticated waists. Dungarees are hard enough for adults to take off!
