Should I teach my son to stand at the toilet for his wee?.

A This really depends on you as a parent. It is not something that is essential to teach your son at a young age. However, some parents of boys find that is sometimes helps with potty/toilet training. Particularly if your son watches his Dad or if he has older brothers.

The first course of action though is to get your son used to using the potty or toilet sitting down first. I am not sure how far you are on with potty training but if your son happily sits down to wee you could try and introduce the standing method, especially if he is showing interest.

Dads too can help here; you can all make the process of weeing standing up a game. Often little boys like the noise the wee makes on the side of the potty and this is reinforcement enough for them!

To encourage your child to stand up whilst passing urine and have the correct aim, some Mums and Dads put toilet paper rolled up into balls in the toilet bowl and get their sons to aim their stream, to sink them. All good fun! Remember to praise his success.
