The best thing to do is start with finding out what upsets your
son about the experience. It may be the coldness of the water or another fear.
Children have very active imaginations so it is best to talk to your child and
find out what is frightening them about their toilet visit. Once you find out
what the fears are you can then start to tackle the issue.
For example; if the issue is the feeling of the splashing of
the water from the toilet it may help to put some toilet tissue in the bowl
of the toilet or potty first before your son uses it and this should help to
stop some of the splash back.
Some Mums put a nappy on whilst their child is using the toilet
or potty. This is to protect the bottom from the splashing, but so the child
can use the toilet like a grown up they make a hole in the nappy for their child
to pooh or wee through. This may be a helpful tool and the goal is that once
your child is using the toilet again you can then take small gradual steps to
gain their confidence to go nappy free!
