What things do I need to do to prepare me for potty training?.

A A good thing to do is to have a potty training plan. To help you formulate this you need to do as much reading around the subject as possible. You may even wish to buy a potty training book that you can keep going back to for reference.
The plan should cover things to help you think about the process

  • Consider discussing potty training with your child before you commence
  • You may want to demonstrate how adults use the toilet to your child.
  • You also need to decide whether you think it will be best for your child to skip the potty stage and use the toilet from the start with a trainer seat.
  • Decide whether you are going to use trainer pants or not
  • Decide where you are going to keep the potty
  • Decide how you are going to make the process fun and reward your child, you may want to use a star chart or another method of choice.
  • You may want to buy the potty together with your child and let you child chose
  • You may want to use a potty training doll that drinks and wets to help make potty training fun. The doll can use the potty/toilet too!
  • It may help schedule your potty or toilet sitting times. You may have already noticed set times you child needs changing so try to sit your child on the potty/toilet at these times and then change as necessary.
