But children need consistency too. Therefore try to set regular
mealtimes and snacks and sit and eat meals as a family. If your child sees you
eating it encourages them too. Try to remain in control of the food buying and
limit the junk food you bring into the house if these foods are not available
they can’t have them.
If you child refuses to eat what you put in front of them don’t
offer biscuits and sweets as an alternative, take the plate away and let them
know that this is all they can have until the next set meal time. Don’t
make a huge issue out of your child not eating remain calm.
Another trick is to invite another mum and toddler round to
have a meal; preferably one that you know eats well. Watching other children
eat may encourage your little one
Try to not bribe your child into eating their meal by the promise
of sweets and biscuits. However do reward their food successes with lots of
verbal praise and some Mums use a sticker chart.
Children will eat when they are hungry but often they are too
busy playing so make food fun, make shapes or spell words with foods involve
your child in preparing foods and tasting the ingredients.
