When should I start taking my baby to the dentist?.

A This really depends on you as a parent and your dentist. Some dentists suggest that you should take your baby to the dentist before their teeth have come through to get them used to the surgery the dentist and the routine. You could take your baby with you when you attend your check ups, even if your baby has no teeth at all yet.

Other dentists may suggest you go when your baby’s first tooth has come through, so speak to your dentist and see what they advise.

Dental surgeries are brand new experiences for children. All the uniforms, masks, noises and smells can be frightening. You too may have been scared of the dentist as a child and these views can be passed on to your child.

So try to make the trip exciting and fun. Making the visit to the dentist exciting and fun for your child to will help them stop them worrying about future visits. Usually all your dentist will do is look in your Childs mouth and count how many teeth they have and check for any problems. As they get older and have more teeth coming through they may have x -rays taken.

Attending the dentist regularly will help your dentist pick up any signs of decay and prevent the possibility of toothache and sleepless nights, so it really is worthwhile
