How do I care for my Childs teeth?.

A Start by buying a soft toothbrush. Tooth paste choice is the next consideration and it is important to select toothpaste that contains fluoride. Fluoride helps to prevent tooth decay. Children under the age of three years can use a smear of family toothpaste containing at least 1,000ppm (parts per million) of fluoride. This will be detailed on the toothpaste packaging if you are unsure. This dosage is recommended because any less and the dose won’t be as effective at preventing decay.

Children aged from three to six years should use a pea-sized blob of toothpaste and the dosage of fluoride in the toothpaste should increase from 1,000ppm (parts per million to 1,350-1,500ppm of fluoride).

Fluoride is a natural mineral it is present in some foods and may even be in the drinking water in your area. If you live in a non fluoridated area you may want to discuss with your dentist fluoride supplements for your child.

How to clean your Childs teeth:

  • Move the brush in small circular movements, several times, on all the surfaces of every tooth.
  • Brush the outer surfaces of each tooth, upper and lower, keeping the bristles angled against the gum line
  • Use the same method on the inside surfaces of all your Childs teeth
  • Brush the top chewing surfaces of the teeth.
  • Brush the tongue to help freshen breath and clean the mouth by removing bacteria.
