How do I care for my Childs teeth?.
A
Start by buying a soft toothbrush.
Tooth paste choice is the next consideration and it is important to select toothpaste
that contains fluoride. Fluoride helps to prevent tooth decay. Children under
the age of three years can use a smear of family toothpaste containing at least
1,000ppm (parts per million) of fluoride. This will be detailed on the toothpaste
packaging if you are unsure. This dosage is recommended because any less and the
dose won’t be as effective at preventing decay.
Children aged from three to six years should use a pea-sized
blob of toothpaste and the dosage of fluoride in the toothpaste should increase
from 1,000ppm (parts per million to 1,350-1,500ppm of fluoride).
Fluoride is a natural mineral it is present in some foods and
may even be in the drinking water in your area. If you live in a non fluoridated
area you may want to discuss with your dentist fluoride supplements for your
child.
