What are the symptoms of teething?.

A Every child will experience teething differently some have symptoms and others do not. Some of the symptoms of teething are described below:

  • Your child may become irritable or restless due to the pain caused by the tooth forcing its way out of the gum. You may notice this particularly when the back teeth or molars are coming through.
  • They may have difficulty sleeping at night and during the day.
  • You may notice your baby wanting to bite down or gnaw at things. This is because biting down helps to relieve some of the pain.
  • They may bite down on their hands and fingers too
  • You may notice they are drooling or dribbling more than usual - this is because teething stimulates the production of saliva
  • Due to the drooling or dribbling your child may get a sore face or chin, so try to remove the dribble as often as you can with a soft cloth
  • Your child may start to rub their cheek or pull their ears as the pain from their back teeth coming through transfers.
  • They may get cold like symptoms such as a runny nose, have a raised temperature and look flushed.
  • Some children can have runny poohs - this is thought to be caused form the excess saliva that is produced making the child’s poohs runnier.
  • Some children can go off their feeds and have an upset tummy. Some may want feeding more.
  • Sometimes they can develop a nappy rash.
