How can I stop my baby biting my nipples? She has recently grown two front bottom teeth.
A
Biting is very painful and is quite
a shock when it is first experienced.
The first time it happens the mother reacts with an 'ouch' and from then on
it becomes a game for the baby because she bites and gets a reaction
which she will find interesting and possibly funny and want to do again.
You must let her know that biting is not acceptable with a firm 'NO'
and remove her from the breast. If she tries to hang on, use your finger
to release the grip.
Do this every time she bites and after a few episodes she will have learned
not to bite your nipple. She will learn that there are some things she can use
her teeth to bite on e.g. food or teething ring and others that are not for biting
on e.g. mother's breast.
