My baby is coming up to 6 months old and appears to be ready for solid foods do I need to buy any special equipment?.
A
- A Your best investment
will be a high chair that way your baby can sit at the table with you and
your family and also it will help support your baby in the upright sitting
position when you and feeding him or her
- Try to buy brightly
coloured bowls and spoons. Weaning should be fun and the colours will help
to maintain your baby’s interest in the food.
- Soft rubbery spoons
are also a must, again in bright colours. It is best to buy soft spoons so
your baby can suck the food from the spoon. Remember your baby will not have
learned yet how to eat from a spoon, so buying a soft spoon that is more like
a bottle teat or breast nipple will help with the transition.
- You may also want to
consider getting a blender or something you can puree food with. It is always
best to prepare home cooked food for your baby as you know all the ingredients
you have added to the food. Baby foods can often contain lots of additives,
salts and sugars that are not recommended to give to your baby, so if you
must buy baby foods always check the labels and select foods with the lowest
salt (sodium) and sugar contents.
- If you have a freezer
this will be ideal! Especially if you have other children. Whilst preparing
foods for your family you can use ice cube trays to freeze baby sized small
amounts of pureed fruits and vegetables.
