Time, calories and motivation

How often should you exercise?
Now this is the 64 million dollar question... IT DEPENDS...on:

  • Your lifestyle
  • Your job
  • Money
  • Time
  • Other commitments
  • How you feel
  • Injuries
  • Other children

Ideally, if you can get into a habit of doing a little bit of something everyday, you're much more likely to stick with it. The number ONE muscle that you should be exercising 24/7...is the pelvic floor. Forget that and you're done for!!!

Calorie intake when exercising
Pregnancy experts calculate that you don't usually need to increase your calorie intake at all in the first six months (although some women find that eating is the only way to stave off nausea...) and after that, only by 200 calories a day - the equivalent to just one piece of toast and a banana! However, you will need to increase your calorie intake to cover the demands of the exercise.

How to stay motivated
Make your exercise fun. Look at it as quality time for yourself and not a chore to get through - enjoy yourself!

  • Keep an exercise diary
  • Exercise with a friend if possible - this will dispel any boredom and help if you get into any difficulties.
  • Reward yourself with a massage
  • Listen to your favourite music
  • Set yourself attainable goals
  • Change your workout regularly
