Sun Safety

As Summer is here! It is worth bearing in mind that even if you're not going abroad, you'll need to take some steps to protect your little ones from damaging UV rays. Even in the UK, the sun can be damaging and UV rays can also penetrate clouds, so it's worth making sure you're prepared.

Make sure you have all the necessary equipment for keeping your child covered - whether they're in a buggy or fully mobile, most sun damage occurs during every day activities so keep them covered as much as possible during the summer months.

Make sure they drink lots to keep fluid levels up and prevent dehydration.

Keep their heads covered - it's definitely worth investing in a sun hat or two to make sure their heads don't burn.

Keep them cool - playing in water, staying in the shade, whichever you decide on it'll benefit your child.

Make sure you have some high factor sun-block handy, and apply it according to the manufacturers instructions. Ideally, the sun-block you use should be factor 15 or higher.

Sunglasses are also important, particularly for toddlers, as the sun can be very damaging to eyes.
