Many toddlers go through a ‘fussy eating’
stage and usually it has nothing to do with the wonderful
nutritional food that parents spend time preparing.
However, the majority of parents do not realise that
this is certainly a ‘normal’ phase that
children go through and is usually fueled by their children’s
intense need for independence. After saying this, parents
do find these times very distressing and worry themselves
sick because they fear that their children will eventually
waste away. Sadly mealtimes soon become a battle ground
because this is one area where children know they can
win!
Usually
all that parents need to get them though this stage
is a good listener, someone who will reassure them that
this will pass and they need an expert to help them
focus their energy in their problem solving challenge
and most of all …. help them relax!
This
is where Health Visitors can make a huge difference.
With the help of this food diary tool, you can assist
parents in realising that their children eat far more
than they realise and hopefully promote a more relaxed
environment and parents find that their child will start
to eat again!
